Frequently Asked Questions
What is Solutions4Learning?
Solutions4Learning provides remedial tutoring and learning support for Grade R to Grade 12 learners.
We begin by assessing key academic areas such as reading, comprehension, spelling and mathematics. We then use the results to develop an individual programme based on your child’s specific strengths, difficulties and learning gaps.
How is Solutions4Learning different from ordinary tutoring?
We do more than simply help with current homework or schoolwork.
Our starting point is an academic assessment. By looking at areas such as reading, comprehension, spelling and mathematics, we can identify where your child may have fallen behind.
We then use those results to prepare an individual programme designed around your child’s specific needs.
Do you offer a free assessment?
Yes. We offer a FREE academic assessment.
The assessment helps us identify your child’s current level and possible learning gaps in areas such as:
- Reading
- Comprehension
- Spelling
- Mathematics
The results are then used to prepare an individual learning programme for your child.
What happens after the assessment?
Once the assessment is complete, we look at the results to determine where support is needed.
We then develop an individual programme for your child, focusing on the specific skills and concepts that need strengthening.
The programme can be adjusted as your child progresses.
Does every child follow the same programme?
No.
Every learner has different strengths, weaknesses and learning gaps. That is why we assess first.
The assessment results help us develop an individualised programme suited to your child’s specific needs, rather than placing every learner on the same programme.
What subjects and areas do you support?
Our programmes can include support in:
- Reading
- Comprehension
- Spelling
- English
- Afrikaans
- Mathematics
- Mathematical Literacy
- Accounting
The exact programme depends on your child’s assessment results and needs.
Will you only help my child with their current grade work?
Not necessarily.
If the assessment shows that an important foundation is missing, we may first work on earlier skills or concepts.
For example, if a learner is struggling with more advanced mathematics because basic concepts were never fully understood, the programme may first strengthen those foundations before moving forward.
Can Solutions4Learning help if my child has fallen far behind?
Yes.
This is one of the reasons the assessment is so important. We determine where your child is currently functioning, rather than simply working according to their age or grade.
We then build the individual programme from the point where your child actually needs support.
Do you help children with dyslexia, ADHD or other learning difficulties?
Yes. With more than 20 years of experience in remedial education, we have supported learners with dyslexia, reading difficulties, ADHD, dyscalculia and other barriers to learning.
The academic assessment helps us identify the specific areas where support is needed so that the programme can be adapted accordingly.
Do you assess concentration?
Yes. A separate concentration assessment is available at an additional fee.
It evaluates areas such as attention, impulsivity, processing and hyper-reactivity, as well as whether these areas are affected by visual or auditory distractions.
This is separate from the FREE academic assessment used to assess reading, comprehension, spelling and mathematics.
How often do learners attend?
Learners normally attend an 80-minute in-centre session once a week.
Lessons are available during the week as well as on Saturdays.
What is your blended learning approach?
Our programme combines face-to-face teaching, written activities and digital learning methods.
This allows learners to practise concepts in different ways and helps reinforce the skills being taught.
How do you monitor progress?
Learners are reassessed at appropriate intervals so that we can monitor development.
The results help us adjust the individual programme as the learner progresses and new needs are identified.
